Ratepayers in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area have been urged to check their quarterly rate notices after council has admitted some people have been incorrectly assessed.

The Chairman of the Caboolture Ratepayers Action Group, Rodney Hansen, says some residents have been overcharged by as much as $75 a quarter, or $300 a year, because Council had wrongly assumed they were property investors and not owner occupiers.

The Chairman of Council's finance committee, Councillor Bob Miller, said council would arrange a mail out to ratepayers advising of the possible wrong assessment on some rate notices.

Angry ratepayers at the meeting argued that Council should issue revised rates notices, rather than expect residents to individually front up to council with a copy of their electricity account to prove their owner occupier status.
